Exhibition Hosts at the Carter Museum

Carter Exhibition Hosts offer visitors a short, 2-5 minute introduction to an exhibition and insight into a handful of artworks. The role is short term, requires minimal and flexible commitment (around 14 hours), and is open to anyone with enthusiasm for supporting the Carter. The initiative piloted in 2023 in response to a need for shorter, more casual facilitated engagement (participation in our traditional docent-led tours had decreased) and the desire to break down barriers to volunteering to diversify our volunteer corps. This presentation will share insight we’ve gathered over four Host programs on marketing the volunteer opportunity, training new volunteers, using visitor and volunteer feedback to continually iterate, and the logistics of rolling out a new volunteer program alongside a traditional docent program.
